VG/GA strain was isolated by Drs. Pedro Villegas and John Glisson at the University of Georgia from the intestinal tracts of turkeys.
LaSota strain: the strain had been isolated from the farm of Adam LaSota in Westwood, Bergen County, New Jersey. He had submitted chicks for postmortem examination on February 6, 1946, and Newcastle disease virus was isolated from the specimens and identified on 22 February 1946.
HERTS strain isolated by Doyle in 1933 from an outbreak in England.
Blacksburg strain (B1) an American strain (Hitchner & Johnson, 1948) of obscure origin and low virulence. It has been used successfully as a live vaccine in the U.S.A. Blacksburg is the location of the agricultural experimental station, Virginia.
MET95 strain: was isolated from a non-vaccinated flock in Japan in 1995. Lentogenic strain.
Hitchner B1: The exact origin of the B-1 strain is not known. The Laboratory of Dr. Beaudette was the source of the B-1 strain of Newcastle virus. it was licensed in the USA, in 1950.
